    Sarabande Books champions poetry, fiction, and essay by creating lasting editions that honor exceptional writing. Our authors have won or been short-listed for, among many others, the Pulitzer Prize, National Book Critics Circle Award, the Lenore Marshall Poetry Prize, the National Jewish Book Award, LA Times Book Prize, Barnes & Noble Discover Great New Writers Award, Lambda Literary awards, Story Prize Spotlight award, and several PEN/American honors, including the PEN/Hemingway. We comply with the Community of Literary Magazines and Presses (CLMP) contest code of ethics.

    KATHRYN A. MORTON PRIZE IN POETRY (JANUARY 1-FEBRUARY 15): The prize includes a $3,000 cash award, publication of a full-length collection of poetry, and a standard royalty contract. $29 submission fee.

    MARY MCCARTHY PRIZE IN SHORT FICTION (JANUARY 1-FEBRUARY 15): The prize includes a $3,000 cash award, publication of the winning manuscript, and a standard royalty contract. $29 submission fee.

    THE JULY OPEN (JULY 1 - JULY 31): Available to all genres, between 150-250 pages for prose, and 50-100 pages for poetry. $29 submission fee.

    THE SARABANDE CHAPBOOK PRIZE (SEPTEMBER 1 - SEPTEMBER 30): Available to traditional poetry chapbooks and hybrid/experimental projects, between 20-30 pages. The prize includes $1,000, publication of the winning manuscript, and a standard royalty contract. $25 submission fee.

    OPEN READING PERIOD FOR MANUSCRIPTS IN TRANSLATION (JULY 1 - JULY 31): A sample translation of at least 20 pages (more complete manuscripts are preferred, but not required). $22 submission fee.
