    $20-25 submission fee for most categories.

    General Submissions ($20 fee): writers may submit either the full manuscript or a sample of between 20 and 30 pages. Please keep in mind that full manuscripts take longer to review.

    Ann Petry Award (free): for a work of previously unpublished prose, either a novel or a collection of short stories or novellas, with a minimum of 150 pages, by a Black writer. The Ann Petry Award will consist of $3000 and publication of the awarded manuscript by Red Hen Press. In addition, the opening chapter or story of the awarded manuscript will be published in the Peauxdunque Review.

    Red Hen Press Fiction Award ($25 fee): for a previously unpublished fresh and original work of fiction, either a novel or short story collection, with a minimum of 150 pages. The deadline for entries is September 30, 2022. The prize includes $1000 and publication of awarded manuscript by Red Hen Press.

    Benjamin Saltman Poetry award ($25 fee): for a previously unpublished original collection of poetry. Deadline: October 31, 2022. Award is $3,000 and publication of the awarded manuscript by Red Hen Press. 48-96 pages.
