A biweekly journal of book reviews and author interviews with a monthly short fiction department, predominantly Canadian. Send us your awesome stories from any genre so long as they're driven by character, language, and theme.

Established in 2024, we're a twice-weekly journal of books reviews, author interviews, and art. We mostly focus on Canadian books and creators, but we do save some space for the rest of the world. Literature, noir, poetry, kidlit—we cover it all, with a team of volunteers that includes authors, publicists, booksellers, and book nerds.

We also have a new monthly short fiction department. We're looking for stories of around 4,000 words, and we're open to any genre so long as there's a bit of a literary touch, with close attention to character, language, and theme. We're sorry that we can't offer payment right now, but we do offer a full editorial process that will make your story eligible when you apply for grants or submitting to awards. Whenever possible, we'll look into submitting to awards as well.

<div><div>Thanks for thinking of <i>The Seaboard Review of Books</i>! Our monthly story feature, Saturday Shorts, is currently open for submissions. This call will close on May 29, 2026.</div><div><br></div><div>We’re looking for stories of roughly 1,500 to 4,000 words. We have broad tastes and like all genres, but whatever the mode, we’re looking for a literary touch focused on character, language, and theme—which doesn’t mean we don’t like a little plot at the same time! We’re not currently accepting novel excerpts or materials that have been previously published, including on a blog. We do sometimes work with publishers who have forthcoming collections and want to showcase a story.</div></div><div><br></div><div>Unfortunately, we’re not able to provide payment at this time, although we’re looking into ways of getting you some money in the future. Until then, we can offer you a home on a growing list of talented and award-winning authors, and we’ll give you a thorough editing experience as well. </div><div><br></div><div>On that last point, note that<i> The Seaboard</i>’s editorial process entails three rounds of editing and a design review. It’s all good if that’s not your thing, but please don’t submit a story if you’re not open to going through this process in good faith and with due patience. We’re not going to make you run a gauntlet, but we do think editorial processes improve stories, and we want to work with writers who feel the same way.</div><div><br></div><div>Send your stories to seaboardfiction@gmail.com. Attach a Word-compatible file (e.g., .doc or .docx), and make sure the text is double-spaced and in 12-point font. Please also include a third-person bio in the same file so we can get to know you a little bit if we don’t already.
