At Poetry Habitat, we publish one poem each day. This steady pace allows us to honor quality with care while continually welcoming fresh, diverse voices into our pages. Our aim is to give each poem its own moment in the light and to ensure every writer feels truly seen and heard.

Poetry Habitat is excited to host our first annual Holiday Poetry Contest, celebrating the full range of emotion the season brings. We invite poems that explore the holidays in any tone or mood—heartfelt, somber, joyful, nostalgic, jolly, or reflective. The season contains multitudes, and we want work that speaks honestly to its light and shadows.
Up to 5 poems per $5 submission.
Poems must be holiday-themed, broadly defined (family gatherings, winter landscapes, grief, memory, celebrations, rituals, loneliness, togetherness, etc.).
Combine all poems into one file (Word or PDF).
Any submissions containing more than 5 poems will only have the first five considered.
Multiple submissions are allowed.
Open to writers of all backgrounds and experience levels.
Previously unpublished work only.
Simultaneous submissions are welcome; please notify us immediately if your piece is accepted elsewhere.
$100, sent via PayPal to the winner on December 24th 2025.
Publication in Poetry Habitat on Christmas Day.

Hold authenticity at their center
If selected, Poetry Habitat asks for First Serial Rights and the right to archive the poem on our website. All rights revert to the author after publication.
