phenomena is named for observable events that provoke investigation and wonder–like an eclipse or a blood moon. We publish poetry, prose, and artwork in a yearly handbound zine that investigates spirituality and belief. Work in phenomena challenges, questions, and examines organized religion. Equally, it looks for the interconnected layers between the tangible and spiritual world. We aim through this collaborative, tangible project to create spiritual dialogue firmly outside the boundaries of organized disciplines and histories; to amplify writing and art that magnifies, hair-raises, posits, speculates, unburies, marvels.

For the second volume of phenomena, we want your prose, poetry, and artwork that emerges from the discoveries and departures from spirituality and belief.

Poetry/Prose: Feel free to submit up to four separate poems or prose pieces (nonfiction, fiction, hybrid, go for it) pieces. Due to anticipated volume length, we’re primarily interested in short-form prose and poetry (<1,000 word count), but if you have a longer piece you feel fits this call, please share it! Please attach prose/poetry submissions in .doc or .docx format or as a Google Doc.
Artwork: Submit up to four images of your artwork. Submit artworks and designs that you’re okay being openly interpreted through a low-cost inkjet printing process, such as when considering color, final image size, etc. For artwork submissions, please two JPEG files for each image, one in RBG (for online digital version) and one in CMYK (for print).
