Moment is a fiercely independent magazine co-founded by Elie Wiesel and Leonard Fein that provides North American Jews with award-winning, in-depth reporting. It transcends ideology and denomination, and it delves deeply into the stories that shape our lives: the future of democracy, anti-semitism on the left and the right, intermarriage, the widening gap between American Jews and Israel, and more.

Moment Magazine

Almost all of the editors I've encountered have been supportive people who give a damn about writing and reading, but the editorial team at Moment are a cut above. They made me feel like a star.

Moment Magazine is now accepting submissions for the 2025 Moment Magazine-Karma Foundation Short Fiction Contest. Moment will award up to three prizes to outstanding works of unpublished short fiction with Jewish content.
 
       Winners may be invited to an awards ceremony. If so, the contest covers a round trip flight or train fare and one night in a hotel, if necessary. All travel arrangements are to be made by Moment.
 
       The judge published in promotional materials judges the finalists. At all times, all decisions are final.
 
       After the completion of the contest, Moment editors will review winning stories. Editors will contact winners if their stories are being considered for publication. Moment Magazine reserves the right at all times to select material for publishing. All selected material is subject to editing by Moment editors.
 
 Entry Fees:
 
       $25 for each entry (multiple submissions are accepted). Please make checks payable to: Moment Magazine-Karma Short Fiction Contest. Note: The $25 is a reader fee and does not in any way give persons who enter the contest any legal rights.
 
 Deadline:
 
 December 1, 2025.
 
       The author's name must not appear anywhere on the manuscript. 
 
       Maximum length for prose is 5,000 words.

The Moment Magazine-Karma Foundation Short Fiction Contest encourages writers to submit stories related to Judaism or Jewish culture or history.<div><br></div><div>Established in 2000, this contest has brought in distinguished judges and special guests including Joyce Carol Oates, Robert Pinsky, Walter Mosley, Nicole Krauss, Erica Jong, Jonathan Safran Foer, Geraldine Brooks, Andre Aciman and Dara Horn. This year’s judge is Joan Leegant.</div><div><br></div><div>Moment will award up to three prizes to outstanding works of unpublished short fiction with Jewish content, including $1,000 for first place.</div><div><br></div><div>After the submission deadline, Moment editors will review all stories and contact winners if their stories are being considered for publication. Moment Magazine reserves the right at all times to select material for publishing. All selected material is subject to editing by Moment editors.</div>
