Lowlife Lit Press carves out a niche in the literary world by embracing the unpolished, the downtrodden, and the defiantly real. It’s a press for those who’ve been knocked down but keep telling their stories anyway.

Lowlife Lit Press is a home for raw, uncompromising fiction and poetry that thrives on the fringes of society. It showcases work that dives into the underbelly of life—stories of drifters, hustlers, night-shift workers, addicts, dreamers, and survivors. Inspired by the grit of Bukowski, the brutal honesty of Nelson Algren, and the restless spirit of punk rock, this press champions voices often overlooked by mainstream literary circles.

We publish the stories that stink of sweat, cigarettes, and last night’s mistakes. The kind that stumble into the room with a busted lip, smelling of whiskey and bad decisions. We’re here for the writers who bleed on the page, the ones who scribble poetry on bar napkins and carve their stories into bathroom stalls. The ones who’ve lived a little too hard, fucked up a little too often, and still have something to say.

Lowlife Lit is for the losers, the outsiders, the forgotten and the fucked. The ones who never made it out of their hometowns, the ones who did but came crawling back, the ones still clawing their way toward something—anything—better.

We’re looking for raw, visceral artwork that fits the themes of pulp noir, lowbrow, outsider, folk, and the beautifully broken.

Art that’s been kicked in the teeth, left in the gutter, and still crawls back with a story to tell. We want the raw, the dark, the pulp-stained, and the lowbrow. Give us outsider visions, punk rockers, folk horror, grimy cityscapes, dive bar saints, the beauty of the broken and beaten down.

If your work speaks in cigarette burns, cracked knuckles, neon reflections in puddles of rain and regret—send it our way. We’re not here for the pristine, the polished, or the gallery-safe. We want the voices of the damned, the lost, the outlaws of the canvas and page.

Martha Hipley is a writer and filmmaker from Baltimore, Maryland who lives and works in Mexico City. Her stories have been published in Utopia Science Fiction, Maudlin House, and surely magazine, among others. When not working, she enjoys training as a triathlete and boxer.
