In a world torn by war and conflict, peace seems elusive everywhere. And yet, if we look closely enough, we can find it in the very places and spaces we inhabit every day. At Mukoli, we believe that peace is as intrinsic to the human condition as violence and conflict. We just need to recognize and amplify it, making it visible. That is how we take the power away from violence and drown the voices that incite conflict.<div><br><div>With this as our starting point for exploring the relationship between place and peace, we are seeking submissions for Issue 6 of Mukoli. We invite you to interpret the theme as you will, so long as you are placing peace and finding it a ground to stand on. Show us how you connect to it.</div><div>Here are some of the questions that the theme raised for us.</div><div><br></div><div>How do you find peace where you are, in the usual and unusual places?</div><div>What does peace look like in the spaces you occupy or the ones that you aspire to occupy?</div><div>What does it mean to find peace where we are?</div><div>Where does peace belong? Where do you place peace?</div><div>How do you place peace, find it a home, or implement it?</div><div>What places and spaces most foster peace?</div><div>How does peace connect across place and space?</div><div>Where did you go in search of peace?</div><div>How did you carry peace with you across the borders between places?</div><div>What about the in-between places, the invisible spaces, the ones that fall through the cracks, and belong to no one?</div></div>

Mukoli Issue 6: Peace in Place (copy)

We are now accepting submissions for Mukoli's 6th Issue: "Peace in Place" which explores the relationship between peace and the spaces we inhabit: the familiar and unfamiliar, the visible and overlooked, the places we call home.

At Mukoli, peace is central to our exploration of the relationship that humans share with other humans; with social, political, and cultural structures; as well as with nature and the environment. We believe that wherever there is a conflict, or a rupture in these relationships, the arts in their multitude of forms – visual, written, spoken – have the power to heal. We are especially keen to publish marginalized, conflict-affected artists and writers. We aim to amplify multiple perspectives and aesthetics from globally diverse writing and artistic traditions.

Mukoli is open! We invite submissions for our 5th issue, which will be contest-based across four categories: Fiction, Nonfiction, Poetry, and Multimedia Art. We seek work that engages with themes of peacebuilding, healing, and changemaking in our world. Each submission must include a 200–250 word Statement of Connection, describing how the work contributes to Mukoli’s approach to peacemaking.

Familiarize yourself with our guidelines, editorial policy, and genres and send us your best work. We look forward to reviewing your submissions!

Our current submission window for the contest is open up to 31 Oct ’25. Submissions received after 31 Oct. ‘25 will not be read.

General call

NY Dumbo Press, a new indie press, welcomes short stories, flash fiction, poetry, and essays for online publication. We have a soft spot for unique, non-traditional works, but welcome all submissions. No submission fee.

DUMBO Press emerged in 2024 as an independent literary press born from a shared vision to create a more compassionate corner of the publishing world. Founded by Kameron Hansen and Parker Wilson, we've built our press on the belief that while dreams may not always come true, they deserve to shatter more gracefully—less like a bull in a china shop, more like a clumsy ballet dancer. We publish literary fiction that explores the dark underbelly of life, seeking work from the Dostoevsky-wannabes, Hemingway-wannabes, Sylvia Plath-wannabes, and everything in between.

Our editorial team brings diverse perspectives from literature to science to graphic design, all anchored by our connections to New York and Iowa City's rich literary heritages. We publish online to ensure accessibility and reach, welcoming short stories, flash fiction, poetry, and essays that push boundaries and challenge conventions. While we have a particular soft spot for unique, non-traditional works, we remain open to all submissions that demonstrate craft, heart, and the kind of authentic voice that makes readers stop scrolling and pay attention. At DUMBO Press, we believe literature should be a respite from harsh realities, not another source of them—which is why we charge no submission fees and respond with care to every piece that crosses our virtual desk.

General Call: Non-Fiction & Essays

An independent, bilingual (Hindi–English) peer-reviewed journal publishing literary research, critical scholarship, and creative writing; poetry, fiction, satire, and more. We seek voices with depth, edge and original thought.

Every writer creates sketches. Some fade with time, while others endure, becoming the foundations of philosophies, ways of life, even entire religions. Such is the power of words.
Patrika Aranyak is an independent, bilingual (Hindi–English) journal of literature and humanities, publishing original work from established and emerging writers alike.

We champion writing that:
Feels timeless while remaining contemporary
Experiments with form — but never for its own sake
Asks questions without alienating the reader

We invite:

Poems that leave an imprint even when they resist trends
Stories that preserve forgotten or marginal strands of the social fabric
Essays that challenge readers, conventions, and ideas
Prose and criticism offering new insights with balance and clarity

We value originality, depth, and the courage to speak in one's true voice. This is a non-commercial, community-driven space where language and thought flow freely, unconstrained by market demands or institutional limits.

We are looking for fresh, original work that impresses us with its ideas, language, and technique, regardless of the form. When submitting, make sure that the line breaks, spacing, and other formal elements of your poem are correct. Please limit poetry submissions to one to three poems.
Art
Works of visual art should be attached as a .jpg, .jpeg, .gif, .png, or .pdf file. We accept most forms of visual art (as photos); this includes photography, illustration, animation, sculpture, painting, ceramics, and drawing. Each artist can submit up to five pieces of visual art for consideration.
Videos
Since we are an online journal, we are excited to include short films (no more than twenty minutes). We are interested in both documentary and fictional work, of all types. Please attach a link to your video, as a multimedia submission. If your work is accepted, we will arrange a dropbox to upload your file. Please submit just one video per submission.
Music or Sound Art
Music or sound art should be attached as a link, for example to a Soundcloud or Bandcamp file, as a multimedia submission. If your submission is accepted we will arrange a dropbox to upload your file. Please limit your submission to three pieces.
New Feathers Anthology acquires First Electronic Rights and Archival Rights for the work we publish in our magazine. We ask that you give permission for us to also publish your work in the year-end print anthology. All rights revert back to the author upon publication. If your work is later republished, we request you note its initial publication in New Feathers Anthology.
At this time we are unable to offer monetary payment to our contributors, but all contributors will be eligible for the New Feathers Award at the end of the year and will receive a print copy of the year-end anthology comprised of all works published during the year.
Please do not send us writing or art generated by artificial intelligence. We are only interested in the creations of human intelligence and human effort.

Multimedia

An online literature and art magazine, published three times annually, with a year-end print anthology. We are interested in quality fiction, poetry, nonfiction, visual art, music, and short videos, imposing no restrictions on genre.

We believe art is a means of exploration and understanding, a way to play, to discover, and to communicate ideas and perceptions relevant to matters of the day (and beyond the day). In New Feathers Anthology, we hope to include and encourage a variety of types of literature, giving both emerging and established writers and artists a place in which they can share ambitious literature and art. We like writing and art that takes chances, risks failure, that explores both the big and the small, the social, personal, and aesthetic, that experiments and plays with forms, that is serious about playful subjects and playful about serious subjects.

Send us your work.
